1.1 – MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM (MBSR)

MBSR is an 8-week program – Eight weekly sessions of 2 and 1/2 hours each plus a day of practice. Participants in the MBSR Program learn several practices, such as mindfulness meditation and mindful movement, that help them improve their mental, physical, and emotional health. Students develop the ability to more accurately observe their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, and respond more wisely to the stressors in their lives. This educational program, developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph. D., at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979, is being taught all over the world because it is supported by 40+ years of published scientific research validating the positive outcomes it brings about. Studies show that the MBSR program can lead to a wide range of benefits including:

  • Increased focus and reduced distraction
  • Increased mental clarity and improved memory
  • Increased relaxation, energy, joy, contentment and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved sense of well-being
  • Reduced emotional reactivity and increased emotional balance
  • Enhanced ability to communicate and relate to others
  • Reduced anxiety and depression

1.2 – MIND-BODY SKILLS GROUP PROGRAM (MBSG)

Eight sessions of 2 hours each. Through the generous support of The Children’s Services Council of Broward County this program is being offered at no cost to Broward County, Florida residents.

NEXT PROGRAM: Orientation Session : January 26, 2023.  Classes: February 2 to March 23, 2023, Thursdays, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Eastern Time.

Limited number of participants: 10 maximum.

Mind-Body Medicine focuses on the interactions between the mind and the body and the techniques and practices that we can use to enhance our health and well-being. We will learn and practice a variety of skills that will help us to change the way we deal with pain, chronic illness, stress, anxiety, and depression, and that will allow us to experience deeper relaxation, less pain, less fatigue, greater energy, and enhanced immune system functioning.

Chronic stress disrupts every physiological function and contributes to every major psychological and physical disorder. Our training focuses on practical, simple, evidence-based stress-relief and resilience-building skills for self-care and emotional well-being, such as meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, and self-expression through words, drawings, and movement.

1.3 – MINDFULNESS FOR TEENAGERS: .b (DOT-BE) PROGRAM

Ten weekly sessions of 50 minutes each: Group program fee: $250/person. The .b program, pronounced [dot-be], is the UK’s leading mindfulness curriculum for 11-18 year old in schools. .b stands for ‘stop and be’, a simple practice at the heart of this ten lesson course. Each .b lesson (between 40 minutes and 1 hour) is expertly crafted to teach a distinct mindfulness skill. The .b materials are designed to engage even the most skeptical of young minds. For more information, please visit the Mindfulness in Schools Project website

Dates of the next program to be announced

Why is this workshop important?
There are too many things trying to grab the attention of teenagers these days. Think about all the many screens in front of their eyes with all those attractive messages popping up. They certainly can benefit immensely from practices that teach them to pause, unplug, and be comfortable in the silence and stillness, even for short periods of time. Mindfulness training can reduce stress and increase serenity and help them concentrate, focus, and not only be more productive, but also happier.

Target Population
Anyone ages 11 to 18 years old.

Learning Objectives

  • To introduce mindfulness to teenagers in a way that is engaging, entertaining and persuasive
  • To introduce teenagers to their faculty of attention and allow them to notice how distracted they are
  • To provide some simple tools for training their attention
  • To introduce key attitudes to attention-training: kindness, patience, repetition
  • To explore that the mind has a life of its own
  • To nurture an attitude of curiosity, kindness, acceptance and openness
  • To teach how to ‘anchor’ the attention in the body
  • To help teenagers understand that the mind habitually interprets and ‘tells stories’ about what is happening
  • To help identify rumination and catastrophizing
  • To teach a series of practices of relaxation and stress-relief
  • To learn to appreciate and savor the pleasant
  • To learn how to respond rather than react to the unpleasant
  • To learn to notice when we are on ‘autopilot’ and how this prevents us from being awake and alive to the experiences in the here and now.

2 – WORKSHOPS

2.1 – MINDFULNESS MEDITATION AND MINDFUL LIVING: AN INTRODUCTION

Three weekly sessions via Zoom of 90 minutes each – 4.5 hours total

NEXT WORKSHOPS: February 14, 21, & 28, 2023 and again on July 4, 11 & 18, 2023

Tuesdays,

Join Piero Falci for a 3-part, experiential workshop on mindfulness meditation and mindful living. These practices dwell in the heart and spirit of nonviolence, giving us the awareness to re-center ourselves and change old patterns. Mindfulness offers us ways to practice nonviolence toward ourselves and others. This online course will be participatory and invite you to discover how mindfulness can support you in your life, work, and activism.

This course will explore these questions:
What is mindfulness?
Why should I practice?
What are its individual and collective benefits, if any?
How should I meditate?
How do I overcome the difficulties of the practice?
How can I live more mindfully?
Can mindfulness create happiness?
Can mindfulness make us less selfish and more generous?
Can mindfulness reduce humanity’s violence and bring us to our senses?

This 3-part workshop is presented as part of Pace e Bene’s mission to provide nonviolence training. Increase your ability to mindfully choose nonviolence and think, speak, and act in nonviolent ways.

FEE: $ 90 Sliding scale, in accordance with your ability to pay. Scholarships for anyone who cannot afford to attend. Email Erin at info@paceebene.org to request a scholarship.

2.2 – MINDFULNESS AND HAPPINESS

4 weekly sessions via Zoom of 90 minutes each – 6 hours total

NEXT PROGRAMS: March 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2023 and September 1, 8, 15 & 22, 2023

Fridays, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Eastern Time, United States

Happiness does not have to come by as an accident in our lives: we can create our own happiness by living more mindfully and by incorporating certain behaviors and attitudes in our daily lives. If we are always waiting for the next thing to be happy, then we will never be truly happy. Happiness is not only the sentiments we feel when we experience more positive than negative emotions, but also the good feelings we experience when we notice that we are moving closer to realizing our potential, living authentically, and achieving our goals in life. As happiness expands, we experience gratitude, contentment, and peace, and feel that life is exciting, meaningful, and precious: we experience joy! We engage with the world creatively, serving others, and feel excited about living. In order to be happy, it’s important to clarify who we are, what we want in life, and what kind of world we want to live in. We are happier when we feel that we have clear purposes and that our existences are meaningful and make life on this planet better. Mindfulness is a practice that allows us to look deeply, see clearly, and better know ourselves. And when we live authentically, in accordance with our values and highest purposes, we reduce stress and become happier.

Fee: $ 120 Sliding scale, in accordance with your ability to pay. Scholarships for anyone who cannot afford to attend. Email Piero at pierofalci@gmail.com to request a scholarship.

2.3 – MINDFUL AND NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION

Three weekly sessions via Zoom of 90 minutes each – 4.5 hours total

NEXT WORKSHOPS: March 7, 14, & 21, 2023 and again August 8, 15 & 22, 2023

Tuesdays,

Join Piero Falci for a 3-part, experiential workshop where we will explore the elements of mindful communication as a nonviolence practice. In a participatory setting, you will learn to bring more awareness to your conversations with attentive listening and thoughtful speaking. Take your nonviolence practice to the next level through focusing on how you use words, speech, and dialogue with friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Communication is a rich and complex activity. Most people can speak and listen, but not everyone is capable of communicating skillfully. Research has shown that one of the most important elements for mental, emotional, and physical health is a nourishing social network. Having a group of good friends is an incredibly powerful medicine. Healthy relationships are fundamentally important for our health, and communication has a huge impact on our relationships. Good, clear, efficient communication is the most fundamental element for preserving and improving relationships. Unskilled communications, on the other hand, create tensions that may become difficult to dissipate. This special 3-part workshop is presented as part of Pace e Bene’s mission to provide nonviolence training for nonviolence toward self, toward all others, and toward the world, through nonviolent thought, word, and deed.

FEE: $ 90 Sliding scale, in accordance with your ability to pay. Scholarships for anyone who cannot afford to attend. Email Erin at info@paceebene.org to request a scholarship.

Perhaps you feel that something needs to change but you are unsure what to do and how to do it, or perhaps you know but are hesitant to move forward. The experience of being uncertain about one’s purpose in life and feeling stuck can make us feel lonely, but meeting others with similar experiences and intentions can take away the sense of isolation and hopelessness, and give us the encouragement we need to do what we feel is right. So let’s do this together! This is one of the reasons why we created this workshop: we don’t have to do it alone. Be guided on how to (re)discover your purpose in life. This workshop will be following the steps of “The Hero’s Journey” by Joseph Campbell.

This link – https://vimeo.com/535251880 – will take you to the video of the session that gave origin to this workshop. Thanks for joining us. We wish you a beautiful journey!

2.6 – BE NATURE: A MINDFUL IMMERSION EXPERIENCE FOR HEALING PEOPLE AND THE PLANET

There’s no separation. Be Nature Retreat. Join us for an experiential journey of mindful communion with nature.

NEXT RETREATS: April 15, July 1 & September 16, 2023

Saturdays, from sunrise to sunset.

There’s no separation. We are nature and nature is us. Join us for this special event being held alongside the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties.

This daylong semi-silent retreat is an invitation to explore embodied mindfulness and contemplative practices immersed in natural environments. The intention is to both deepen curiosity, connection, and communion with nature as a means to healing ourselves, our relationships with others and our natural spaces.

We live in a world ridden by disconnection, disempowerment, and dis-ease, and many of us are working under a veil of eco-grief, climate anxiety, and serial collective traumatic events. Returning to nature is a way to return to ease, to stabilize our ecosystem, and to remember that we embody the same hope and resilience of nature.

This retreat is open to eco-activists and anyone who would like to restore their connection to nature and themselves. Must be 18 or over to participate. Weather permitting, we will be spending most of the time outdoors. Participants are encouraged to arrive early, dress in layers and bring a bagged lunch.

2.7 – A MINDFUL AND NONVIOLENT HOLIDAY SEASON

One session via Zoom of 90 minutes

NEXT SESSIONS:
October 24, 2023 and again November 14, 2023

Let’s be honest. Although the end-of-the-year holidays are supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, uncomfortable family gatherings, awkward office parties, crowded malls, airports, streets and parking lots, and other similarly unpleasant situations can make it the most stressful time of year.

Spending time with family members and friends who hold different personal, political, and cultural views can be very challenging and demand a lot of restraint in order to avoid the emergence of explosive arguments.

Although you might not be able to eliminate family dysfunction or shopping and travel stress, mindfulness tools can help you cope with these stressors more wisely.

Join us for a conversation with Piero Falci, Mindfulness Meditation and Mindful Living teacher, and the author of “A Better Life in a Better World: Can Mindfulness Save Us from Ourselves?” on how to apply nonviolence and mindfulness techniques in order to experience the minimum amount of stress and the maximum amount of joy during this season.

Please, take a moment to consider how much you would be willing to pay.

Your donations allow me to keep Participating in courses, studying, practicing, reflecting, writing, and teaching.
If you feel called to donate, decide how much you want to give.
All gifts are deeply appreciated.
Thank you.

Please use the ways listed below to pay for services or to make a donation:

Dana – The tradition of generosity

The practice of generosity develops loving-kindness and compassion, deepens awareness of our interconnectedness, and encourages non-attachment.

Teachers exercise generosity by offering their teachings for free. Students exercise theirs by supporting the work of the teachers and by helping to spread the teachings.

When we all take part in the offering and receiving, we join a large circle of generosity. Teachers share the teachings, and in turn the students offer financial support to them.

Donations allow teachers to devote themselves to do this labor of teaching, and to offer the teachings to all populations, including those without the means to donate.

If you feel called to do so, please make a donation. Ponder on the question, “What value do these teachings have in my life?” and determine for yourself the amount that is right for you to give.

Your gift is deeply appreciated.

MINDFULNESS FOR A BETTER MIND, LIFE, AND WORLD

Mindfulness for a Better Mind, Life, and World is a 3-book series that compiles three hundred and sixty-five essays about mindfulness and how its practice has the potential to improve our lives and the world in which we live. The three books in the series are:

Book OneA Better Mind: Can Mindfulness Make Us Wiser?

Book TwoA Better Life: Can Mindfulness Make Us Happier?

Book ThreeA Better World: Can Mindfulness Save Us From Ourselves?

This 3-book series contains answers to questions such as, “What is mindfulness? How do I overcome the difficulties of the practice? Can mindfulness bring about happiness?”And considering the current state of affairs in our world, it invites us to ponder: “Can mindfulness reduce humanity’s savageness and insanity and bring us to our senses? Can mindfulness inspire us to change our violent ways and stop the destruction of our natural environment? Can mindfulness save us from ourselves?”

These books are for all who aspire to live more mindfully and bring more sanity, equality, and peace to our world. It is of the utmost importance that we pause and engage in deep thinking to clarify what kind of world we want to live in and how to bring it about. Many vital discussions need to take place as soon as possible, and I am convinced that mindfulness can help us immensely in this mighty endeavor.

Feel free to read the short articles in this series in any order that feels right to you. And since these three books assemble exactly three hundred and sixty-five essays and poems, I encourage you to create your own Year of Mindfulness by reading and pondering on one essay or poem a day throughout the course of one year.

I hope that reading the three books in this series will inspire you to practice mindfulness, live more mindfully, and be a force for good in our world. May you have many mindful moments every day of your life.

A Better Mind

A BETTER MIND

Mindfulness is a word that means different things to different people. I begin the first volume of this series explaining the distinction I make between mindfulness meditation and mindful living. If we equate mindfulness to a sport, then mindfulness meditation is the practice and mindful living is the game. As anyone who plays or follows sports knows, practice is important, but what we do in practice is of less consequence than our performance during the games: that’s what really matters.

Similarly, it’s important to prepare ourselves to live more mindfully, and this is what the practice of mindfulness meditation does. But we have to keep in mind that the practice is not an end in itself: our ultimate goal is not to become excellent meditators, but to become better human beings who bless the world with our presence.

In this first book of the series I explain what mindfulness meditation is, and introduce a series of mindfulness exercises.

I put in plain words how our minds work, and how the expanded awareness and insights that come from the practice make us better able to answer life’s challenges more wisely, and, in doing so, not only improve the quality of our lives, but also create a better world for us all.

I hope that reading the three books in this series will inspire you to practice mindfulness, live more mindfully, and be a force for good in our world. May you have many mindful moments every day of your life.

A Better Life

A BETTER LIFE

I begin the second volume of this series explaining that happiness does not have to come by as an accident in our lives: we can create our own happiness by living more mindfully and by incorporating certain behaviors and attitudes in our daily lives. If we are always waiting for the next thing to be happy, then we will never be truly happy. We can train ourselves to increase the enjoyment of our journeys by practicing N.A.S.A.—an acronym that reminds us to intentionally Notice, Appreciate, Savor, and Absorb the good things in life.

I also recommend reflecting often on the advice for good living that stems from these nine words that begin with the letter L:

1 – Look deeply.

2 – Listen attentively.

3 – Learn unceasingly.

4 – Lead compassionately.

5 – Laugh profusely.

6 – Love wastefully.

7 – Live fully.

8 – Let go of everything.

9 – Leave an honorable legacy.

I exhort each one of us to discover their purpose in life and follow their bliss, accepting their Call to Adventure and living out their Hero’s Journey. I offer advice on how mindfulness meditation and mindful living can improve our physical, mental, and emotional health, and explain how the understanding of the stages of faith development can free ourselves from the limitations imposed by organized religions and allow us to enjoy richer and more fulfilling spiritual journeys.

Finally, I invite us to reflect on our impending physical death and understand how the deep and omnipresent awareness of the impermanence of all beings and things improves the quality of our lives.

I hope that reading the three books in this series will inspire you to practice mindfulness, live more mindfully, and be a force for good in our world. May you have many mindful moments every day of your life.

A Better World

A BETTER WORLD

I begin the third volume of this series with an invitation to imagine ourselves looking at Planet Earth from above, as if we were astronauts. As all the people who have been in outer space have realized, we are here, all of us, sharing this one fragile and beautiful planet, and for that reason it is imperative that we put an end to all senseless fighting and work together to preserve the Earth, our only home.

Since we are all interrelated, I argue that the practice of mindfulness is not selfish. As our practice transforms us into kinder individuals, it ends up benefiting others. And it is also clear that our concern, care, and action to promote the welfare of others benefit all of us.

Mindfulness meditation and mindful living can be that missing element that will bring us to our senses and put us on the path of promoting the well-being of everyone on this planet.

In this volume we explore how mindfulness meditation and mindful living can contribute to save us from self-destruction.

It invites us to look deeply and realize the insane ways we have been conducting ourselves, and calls upon us to expand our thinking, see new possibilities, and roll up our sleeves and take on the work of reorganizing how we have been living on this planet, so we stop harming one another and the Earth.

It emphasizes, among other things, the importance of skillful parenting and it exhorts all of us to learn how to communicate, solve conflicts, and confront injustices using nonviolent means.

Finally, it invites us to ponder on the idea that Heaven is here, if we want it to be.

I hope that reading the three books in this series will inspire you to practice mindfulness, live more mindfully, and be a force for good in our world. May you have many mindful moments every day of your life.
